At first I want to wish all my friends and collectors a very Happy New Year.

Normally I don't write much about my private life as I believe that the readers are interested in bears and other hobbies. However I have to let you see a photo of my youngest son and his wife. They were married in September 2011, and they are very happy. They have known each other since high school.

My little "Ole" is finished and sitting here. He is 8 cm tall and i waiting to go to Hugglets next month. I am a little behind with bears for the show so I am not putting any bears up for adoption now.

This is "Sofie" and she stands 7,5 cm. I have enjoyed sewing these little flowers and I think that they are quite cute. I shall try on a few more bears. I like to try something new so I shall have to wait and see what my collectors say ;-)

Today for the first time in a long time the sun is shining. Lovely. I needed that.

It has been a long time since I last wrote to my blog. I have been busy making a few bears but also some large bedspreads in patchwork. However, now the bears have priority again. I have put these two 10 cm bears up for sale.

We had a good day at Hugglets yesterday. Thank you to all the customers who bought one or more of my little bears. They were totally sold out after a couple of hours.

I now look forward to start sewing new miniature teddies. However, I shall continue the style I already have started as I like those little bears - and fortunately - so do others :-)

These three little bears were all sold yesterday at Hugglets.

Autumn has come, and to me it is a very good time of year - good for making bears.

New bears are being "born" and waiting for the trip. These are Cherry and Kim, and they are not for sale yet.

Finally I finished the quilt I started on May 1st at the Kaffe Fassett workshop in Slangerup, Denmark. It was a very exciting day and I am pleased with the finished result.

Hi,

Finally, I finished a few new bears.

After participating in a workshop with Kaffe Fassett I have been busy making a quilt. It has been very fascinating but also time consuming. I am not finished yet but it will be good. I look forward to seeing the finished result.

The bears, however, should not be forgotten and in between I have been working on them. This little guy has little chickens on his feet and hands and he is very cute. I named him Buddy.

Home again

We had some lovely days in Wiedenbrück when we attended Teddybär Total. The place is 700 kilometers south of Denmark and it was very obvious that spring was at least 2-3 weeks ahead of us in Denmark.

The teddy bear sale went very well, so all in all it has been some very nice days. It was as usual good to talk to both collectors and other artists. Every time you learn something new.

Off to Germany

I have started making bears for the next show in Germany on 16th and 17th April. This little guy is one of them.

When I come home from Germany I shall update my website. However, I do not have that many bears for the moment.

I just received a new Pukipuki bjd. I think they are very cute.

Bella 15 months

My beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback, Bella, is now 15 months. She is a lovely dog and she has her own mind - that's a RR for you!!

She likes my small bears, in fact, she loves to chew them, and that is the ONLY thing she will take that is not allowed. Well, the responsibility is mine, so I have to remember to always put my bears in boxes when I do not work on them. I have forgotten a few times and it is really annoying to have an almost finished bear chewed to pieces.

Bella is becoming a really good watchdog and we just love her.

Home again

Back again after a very good day at Hugglets. Many of my small bears found new homes and I was pleased to meet with known and new customers. I look forward to returning to Hugglets in September.

The flu

With 10 days to Hugglets it is not fun to have to stay in bed because of the flu. It has now lasted 8 days and it is not quite over. Not in bed anymore - but the energy .......

Well, these two little bears will make the trip to London together with their friends. I hope to finish a few more.

Now winter has returned - I thought spring was around the corner. But I guess that I am not the only one waiting for spring :-) I look forward to visiting London, normally it is a little warmer than Denmark.

This little girl "Hanni" is one of many new bears I shall bring to Hugglet, London, end of February.

I have just signed up for a Kaffe Fassett workshop on May 1st. I am very excited - I love his patterns and colours. I am sure that I shall have lots of inspiration when I have been there - also for my bears.

I also signed up for the Teddybär Total in Germany on 16th and 17th April. It has been several years since I last went there.

My website is going to have a new look and I look forward to that too. However, the designer is taking her time!!

Sometimes I feel like making something different. In this case I found one of my old patterns, Oliver 17 cm, and made him again. Well, he is not Oliver anymore, but Kirsten. However, I think that she is cute.

My next show will be Hugglets in February, so maybe I shall bring a few bears a little larger that the usual miniatures. This little one is moving into a house with three large dogs so I hope that she will survive.

Thoughts in November

Rain, rain, snow, rain . . . . .

There is no doubt, winter is around the corner. I don't mind. I love spending time in my work room making bears or working with my computer.

I made 3 little bears - each with its own personality:

This is CLARA. Her body and food pads are made from 2 different cotton fabrics with flowers and she has matching roses on her shoulder. She is 7,5 cm tall and has glass eyes.
This little bear is AMALIE. She is also 7,5 cm tall when standing. She has a double bow and some matching flowers. She is made from 3 different colours of "fur".
Then there is MADS, same size as the others. Also made from 3 different colours. He also has a double bow and matching flowers.

I attended a show in Malmö, Sweden, on October 24th. Unfortunately, there were very few visitors. What a shame. I really hope that the interest for teddy bears in this part of the world will increase again. It is so sad that one show after an other has to shut down. I believe that this is partly due to the Internet, but the personal contact with collectors is very important I think.

Well, I have lots of ideas in my head so I shall continue making the small bears.

Who is who in bear making

On November 6th and 7th a online show is taking place through "Who is who in bear making". I made 5 beautiful bears for this show and lined them up on my table for photos. However, having left my room for a short moment my wonderful dog obviously felt that these bears would be nice to chew, so when I returned there were no bears on the table but bear bits all over the floor and an innocent looking dog. What do you say? ? Well - I knew that the fault was mine, but what did that help? I am sure that many other artists with pets have experienced something like this. I did, however, make 3 new bears before deadline and here is a sneak peek.

A little news

It has been a long time, but I have been very busy. My 89 years old mother, who lives 400 kilometers away, has moved from a big house where she had lived for 50 years to a 3 room flat. It has been very hard for her. She loves the flat near her friends, but the mental moving is difficult when you have reached that age. Jorn and I have helped her moving for the past 2 weeks and are going home tomorrow. Hopefully, when we are gone she can find herself in the new sorroundings.

I look forward to coming home and make some new bears. The little group above has been visiting a photographer. The new ones can soon be seen on my web-site.
Bella has been staying with my son and daughter in law and their 3 children for the last fortnight. My grandson has been sleeping on the floor with her as she is not allowed in the beds. I guess that it will be hard for her to come home to mom and dad where no one is sleeping on the floor with her :-)

Lost in the flowers!

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. We have just spent 8 days on the island Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. It is a beautiful, Danish island where the nature is very much different from the rest of Denmark. Now we are enjoying the summer in our garden. We had Bella with us to Bornholm which was very nice.

"Lara" and a little about Bella

Little Lara is my newest creation. She is 9 cm tall standing, and she stands very well on her big

feet. Some times I just need colours - especially now when I have totally forgotten what spring is like. It is cold, cold .....

My Ridgeback, Bella, is now 6 months and you would think that she had read books about big dogs. She is acting just like it says in the books that from 6 to 18 months the dog is a lout. The day after her 6 months birthsday she found it necessary to try to eat one of the buttons on our sofa. As the button just wouldn't give in she tried with her front paws/nails with the result thet the fabric was torn. I am sure she thought: "Hurray, now I am 6 months, now the fun begins!!"

Well, we love her anyway. We have had dogs before and know that this is something we have to go through when we have a teen-age dog.

I have heard that spring will be here on Thursday - I look forward to it very much.

Little "Alfred" and his friend "Magnus"

I am looking out of my window and enjoying spring. Two pigeons are having a discussion in a tree nereby and Bella is telling me to skip playing with my computer and concentrate on her. So everything is as it should be.
My newest creations, Alfred and Magnus, have been photographed outside today - lovely, although it is somwhat windy and the little bears had problems staying in one spot.

Spring is here - and it is absolutely wonderful. There are so many things you want to do and there is not time for it all ;-) Well, as always it is a question of priority - but that is also a problem when you want to do everything right now. I am now on facebook which I can see also takes a lot of time.

My puppy, Bella, is 5 months old now and she is adorable. She really enjoys to be out in the sun being a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Inside she prefers to lie down in frot of the fireplace.

I have finished a little panda - please have a look. He is 9 cm tall and has checkered paw pads with a matching nose. A cute little guy.

Back from London (Hugglets)

Very late last night Jorn and I returned home from a lovely weekend in London. Up to the last hour we were not sure whether I could make the trip. I had been down with the flu all week but I had to go to Hugglets. A few years ago we were trapped in the airport because of the weather and couldn't attend the Hugglets Winter BearFest. We had a friend put a sign on our table that we were not able to make it. This could just not happen again. As it turned out my health was not the best, but all right. Or at least so I thought until I saw the photos my husband took of me and the stand!!

So - here is a photo of my stand without me. I enjoyed talking to collectors and other visitors and quite a few of my little bears didn't go back to Denmark.

One large bear, Alex

I found a half finished bear that I had started before I injured my right hand. The bear had been lying for a long time in a bag. I decided to finish this bear and you can see the result here. The bear's name is "Alex" and she is 42 cm long standing. The body is filled with rubber pellets so she is soft and heavy. I have not decided whether to bring her to Hugglets in 12 days as she will not fit in among all the small teddy bears. However, she is quite cute.
I look very much forward to going to London again but I must say that I am happy that I shall bring miniature bears this time. It makes the flight easier.

New puppy "Bella"

Our standard poodle of 3½ years got very ill a couple of months ago and sadly nothing the wet could do helped. Fie had to be put down last Friday. We were, however, prepared and we have now got a new puppy, Bella. Se is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and 8 weeks old. Luckily, we had forgotten how big a job it is to have a little puppy in the house and with 50 cm snow in the garden it is not possible to go out to play. With regard to a kitten we found out that my husband, Jorn, is allergic to cats, so a kitten is out of the question.

I try to make bears when Bella is sleeping. It is exactly the same as having a baby in the house.

Christmas

Today I uploaded 3 new miniature bears and 1 rabbit to my web-site. They are for sale now. I realize that it is a little late for Christmas gifts. I never made rabbits before but it is a lot of fun.

I do not plan to put more teddy bears for sale before Hugglets in February.

I have been scrapbooking lately and also tried to learn digi-scrapping. It takes a lot of my time. It is not easy when you want to do everything at one time.

Christmas is coming up and my youngest son will be back from Seattle where he has studied at the university for the past 4 months. We all - and not least his girlfriend - look forward to having him home for the holidays. Fantastic.

I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.

Teddy Bear Show

Sunday the 25th October was the date of "Nalle-mässe" (Teddy Bear Show) in Malmö, Sweden. As many times before I attended the show. This time, however, I only needed a small stall as my bears have become smaller. It is really nice when travelling with the bears.
Unfortunately for the show there were fewer exhibitors and fewer customers than earlier. But I guess that this is symptomatical for shows all over the world. I, however, had a very good sale as the serious teddy bear collectors always are present when the show opens and these are the people that are imporant to me.

After an hour most of my bears were sold so the rest of the day was relaxation.

Thoughts in October

In the October/November issue of Teddy Bear Times there is an article about my "new world" in bear making, namely my miniature teddy bears.
I find that I have stretched myself over too much the last year making both reborn dolls and teddy bears. It has been too much. I find it difficult to say "no" and consequently I get too many commitments. I have now decided to cut down on my doll making and concentrate on the little bears. Also I plan to do some scrapbooking which is a very relaxing hobby.

Flower wreaths in size 1:12

I have asked my good friend, the talented miniature flower artist, Lene Mathiasen to make a few flower wreaths for my bears. The result is wonderful, and I am sure I shall ask her again.

I have just uploaded my website with new mini-bears for sale and these two are also there.

For the first time I have managed my site myself - with supervision from Jorn, of course. I am very excited about this. It is nice to be able to do it yourself and not have to ask.

Preparing for next show

I had 3 wonderful days last weekend attending a show in Viborg, Denmark. There were more than 17.000 visitors. It was, of course, not a teddy bear show but a show regarding all kinds of crafts.

There were a few teddy bear collectors and it is very nice to meet people with the same interest as your own.

My next show will be in Malmö, Sweden. I have been there many times before and I love it there.

Kitten and dog ??

Normally, I only write about my teddy bears, but I have to share a problem I have got: I had ordered a kitten of a Russian Blue cat. She would be 12 weeks old on September 24th when I could pick her up. Just the other day the most beautiful kitten and its mother visited out garden. Of course, I didn't let our standard poodle out in the garden until I had seen the mother cat and the kitten had gone away. 5 minutes after I had let the dog out I looked out and saw the mother cat and my dog stearing each other in the eyes, just one meter apart. The the hunt began, but of course the dog couldn't catch the cat. That was when I saw a dead kitten lying on the lawn. My dog had just broken its neck.

Now I do not know what to do. I am not sure that I can trust my dog with a kitten in the house.
Mayby someone can tell me if they have had an experience like this. I still would like very much to have a cat - but do I dare?
For the sake of good order I should mention that the photo is not the kitten in question, but an other Russian Blue kitten.

Preparing for show

There is a show coming up in less than 3 weeks. I am bringing both miniature teddy bears and reborn dolls. I am also going to make a pattern so that the customers can buy a kit and make their own miniature bear - if they feel like it.

Luckily, both my husband and his sister have agreed to help me at the show. I know from experience that there will be lots of people around the reborn dolls asking questions, etc. It is essential that there is a person to concentrate on the bears as well. The customers for bears and dolls are not the same.

I am showing three little bears here. I think they are cute.

I don't think that I will do any more shows this autumn. My next show abroad will be Hugglets in February 2010.

Little Pink Panda

It is time between guests and I have just made a little pink beauty. The weather is not too good so I have started planning my next show in September. I love making plans for shows, there are always lots of things to do. The coming show is a 3-day show. It is about all kinds of needlework and other kinds of hobby for both men and women. There are a couple of hundred exhibitors and they are mainly people who are interested in needlework. Consequently, I shall make some teddy bear kits so that there is something for the creative customer. I shall be showing my miniature teddy bears as well as reborn dolls.

This little girl is 7,5 cm tall and disc and string jointed. She will not be for sale on my website for some time.

New miniature bears

I have been away on summer holiday. We had rented a house boat which was placed in a big lake in Germany. It was very nice. Our son and his girlfriend came to visit us for a couple of days. I had planned to make a few miniature bears, however, to my own surprise I managed to make 6. I got totally carried away and had a needle in my hand most of the time. Of course, we also did some sightseeing, but sitting on the terrace of the house boat listening to the water and looking at ducks and geese was very nice.

New blog for reborn dolls

I have for quite some time had a Danish blog regarding my reborn dolls. However, I have had very little response to this blog, so I have now made a blog in English language. This means that I shall separate my posts regarding bears and dolls. I believe that this will be in the interest of everybody.

It has now been 6 months since I injured my right thumb. I am still more og less in pain and I have decided to take a break from sewing for at least one week or two to see if the pain goes away. I really hope that the pain has nothing to do with sewing but I have to find out.

Busy days

It has bee a while since my last entry here. I have been very busy making reborn dolls as I in one week sold 5 dolls and had a "mini show" coming.

A group of miniaturists had asked if they could come and see and hear about my bears and especially see my dolls, so I had to have some dolls to show. I had asked the famous flower miniaturist Lene Mathiasen to join me and show here beautiful trees and flowers. The visit was a succes, however, I had to borrow some of my bears from family as I had none in my house.

However, I have had time for a few small teddy bears that I have put on my web-site. I have made a bear with a larger head, so she looks like a small cub. Cute I think.

Mail from Lucas' "new mother"

Lucas arrived here last Friday and has found his way to my kitchen window, where I spend hours cooking and washing dishes! He sits so nice next to a face carved from an avocado seed that my sister made (I gave one to Kield to giver to Kirsten, so you can stop over and see it sometime). The great thing is that he(I renamed him "Stine", so I think he is a she, but will continue to call it a "he") sits in a place I love and am constantly looking at, as beautiful birds land at the feeder behind the window. He looks real nice when the Eastern Blue Birds come to eat, their bright blue is beautiful next to his brown fur!

New mini-teddies

I have finally finished 4 new mini-teddies. The one below is named "Nanok". Easter is coming up and our second eldest son, Jakob, and his wife and 3 children together with my mother are coming to stay for 4 days. They live in the area of Copenhagen which is 400 km and an expensive bridge away from here. It shall be nice having them around. Hopefully, the weather will be nice.

New reborn-dolls

I have just finished 2 new reborn-babies, "Olivia" and "Astrid". They are up for adoption on my reborn web-site. The dolls are painted with Genesis Heat Set paint.

I love making the dolls, but at the same time I feel that I should spend more time making teddy bears which I also love. Sometimes I feel that I should just stick to just one of the two things - but it is not possible for me for the time being.

However, I am working on my small bears and trying to improve my skills.

Hopefully I will be totally satisfied one day.

Lucas - a new mini

I just finished a new little bear. He is called "Lucas" and is going to Boston with a friend of mine and he is going to live there. It is a long journey from Denmark but he will be o.k.

I have many more little bears planned. I just love to make them.

I am also in the process of making reborn-dolls for a show in June. People are very fascinated about these dolls. Some think that they are scary and look like dead babyes, but most people just love them. However, they are rather expensive so I do not want to have too many on stock.

The sun is shining from a blue sky for the time being. You really have a feeling that Spring is on its way. Very nice after a long and grey winter. It is amazing how each new season is welcome.

I just finished 3 small teddy bears. I think that they are very cute and I really enjoy making them. Their names are Brandy, Paul and Anita. They are made from long pile upholstry fabric. For the moment I have some large bears in production as well but I can feel that they will have to wait for some time to be finished. For the time being the small bears are my favourites.

Newspaper article

Last week - when I was away on holiday - there was an article in a local newspaper about me and my work with reborn dolls and teddy bears. It was a long article and covered all aspects of my "hobby life". I must, however, admit that only the reborn dolls were of interest to the readers I had contact with.

I am working on small bears for the moment. I hope to have these small guys ready soon with accessories etc. so that I can bring photos here.

Rain - again

I am looking out and it is raining - again! This is winter now a days in my part of Denmark. It is not very encouraging, mostly because of lack of daylight.

Now comes the good part: I got mail today, a parcel from U.S.A. with materials for small teddy bears. It is so exciting to receive the material you order via the Internet. I love getting this kind of parcels, to be able to feel the ordered material and see the little things for real. I believe that it would be impossible to have the hobbies I have without the Internet. It is fantastic.

I am going away for about 10 days. I have grandchildren in Sweden whose parrents are going to London for some days, and Jorn and I are going to look after Mads (6 years) and Emilie (4 years) in the meantime. As our son and his family live so far away we do not see them that often which is really too bad. But we enjoy it so much more when we see them. We have an other son who lives in the Copenhagen area with his family. He as 3 children, Mathias (10), Philip (3) and Cecilie (1). Of course, we are also going to spend some days with them and we look very much forward to this. I am going to bring material so I can sew a little bear or two - if I get the time. I need to know that I at least have the possibility to make a bear. However, our grandchildren have first priority.

When we are back it will be March and hopefully the weather will know that March is the first month of spring.

Small teddies

It seems that I must make small teddy bears as they do not require so much cutting which I cannot do yet. I have started a new big bear, but my husband had to be the one to cut it all out. He doesn't like that part very much. He is all right when it comes to evaluate og sell the bears. Well, I am not quite fair because he also helps me stuff the big ones - and that really is a big help.

I have made a couple of little guysand they are quite cute I think.

Last Saturday I went to see a Teddy Bear and Doll Show in Aarhus (the second largest city in Denmark). When you go to these shows you realize that Denmark is a small country. There were 3 stalls with teddybears and 2 with dolls - both reborn dolls. There are simply not buyers in Denmark for large Teddy Bear shows or Doll shows. Well, fortunately, we can go abroad to show our bears and there is the Internet.

Finally, I finished my first teddy bear this year. His name is "Hugo" and he is about 40 cm standing.

I shall make some more bears before he will be shown on my web-site.

For the moment I have one of my reborn-dolls, "Sara", for sale on http://www.qxl.dk/. She is a beautiful sleeping girl. Her hair is hand rooted with high quality American mohair and she is painted with Genesis Heat Set colours. Have a look:

Now I plan to make some mini-teddies. My hand is still not in order and using scissors is a problem. The small ones do not require so much cutting.

I have just been walking my dog and it is cold and windy outside - just the weater for bear making.

Yesterday my plaster cast was removed. I had looked very much forward to this day when I would start sewing again. However, not only the injured thumb but the whole hand and wrist was hurting and unable to move properly. Today it is a little better, but I realize that it will take some time before I am able to do the things I used to do.I still had to find the two unfinished bears I had lying waiting for my hand to get well:
I hope to be able to present the bears in a week or so.

I have a grey standard poodle called Fie. She is staying in my workroom whenever I am there and that is several hours a day. Our house was built as a grocer's general store 90 years ago. However, the store was closed some 25 years ago. We bought the house, whis is in a small village, about 2 years ago. My husband is renovating the house and a part of the old store has become my workroom. There is still a large window from the days of the store, and Fie enjoys spending time looking at the people and cars that are passing. It is nice to have a companion when you are working though she can be noisy when other dogs or cats pas the window. I also enjoy having this large window, it provides the perfect light for my work.

Bears for grandchildren and more

I have 5 absolutely wonderful grandchildren. For each of them I have made a teddy bear for their Christening. I have embroidered their name and date on the foot pad of each bear. I think that it is a nice thing to have from their grandmother when they grow up. I have made a scrapbooking page of the five bears with a small photo of the owner:

Last week I visited a supplier of mohair here in Denmark (we only have very few). It was my birthsday and I went with two of my best friends who also make teddy bears. We meet once a month and have a very nice evening making bears and talking. I bought some more pieces of mohair in the hope that I shall be able to sew very soon. It is very frustrating not to be able to do what you really want. But planning what you are going to make is also very nice.

After spending one more day in front of my computer I really learned a lot about blogging. I have had a great help from Tina (Tinybear) who gave me very good instructions in Danish. Thank you, Tina.

As it appears, my hand is still not working very good. Philip needs a brush before photoshooting, but it is difficult. The little guy is a reborn doll and he is quite cute. I have been making these dolls for a little more than a year after attending several courses.

As I mentioned, the thing that I actually can do for the time being is scrapbooking. I have been at a couple of courses in October and December 2008. I also like decoupage so I have tried to combine the two. I can see that I have a long way to go but I enjoy working with the paper.

One thing that I have also learned during the past couple of days is that I shall have to plan my day in order to make time for both the computer and the things I really want to do. I also have a dog and family that need my attention.

Getting started

"Just do it" someone once said - and so I did. I have started a blog today and I know almost nothing about this. However, when I look at other blogs I see some very interesting and inspiring entries, and of course I shall be able to do that too very soon.

My purpose with this blog is to share my "hobby life" with others who might be interested.

My teddy bear making has ment very much for me and for my husband as he helps whereever he can and always goes with me on exhibitions. I have made mostly big bears, but lately I have started making small bears as well. I find that the change between the sizes is giving new inspiration.

Unfortunately, I have injured my right hand 1 month ago and the hand is in a plaster cast. That means that I am unable to use my thumb for the time being. It is surprisingly many things you cannot do without the use of your thumb, and some of them are drawing and sewing! Therefore, no new teddy bears ..... On Wednesday the 28th of January I am having a new exray and I do hope that the cast will come off then.

In the meantime I can try to learn more about this medium, and luckily I am able to do some scrapbooking.
